Marie Rechsteiner is a dance artist and visual artist based between Trondheim and Berlin. She graduated from the University of Stavanger in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in Dance, and holds a Master in Dance Studies from NTNU. A large part of her work is interdisciplinary in nature, combining movement with sound art, video projections, objects, and site-specific, improvised interaction, often situated at the intersection between dance and visual art. Thematically, her work revolves around current social issues and examines how societal discourses manifest in the body and become visible through embodied, performative expression. She is interested in the potential that exists in the encounter between body, space, audience, and process, and how one can challenge and create new spaces through a shifting between poetic and sociopolitical perspectives.
She is one of the founders of the studio collective Garage – Werkstatt für Darstellende Künste, a production and presentation platform for the independent arts field in Berlin. She has received a work grant for young/emerging artists from the Norwegian Arts Grants Committee, a grant from the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation, an arts and culture grant from Trøndelag County, and an establishment grant from Trondheim Municipality.
